DRS Technologies Introduces Open Architecture Microwave Tuner

PARSIPPANY, N.J., December 2008 – DRS Technologies announced today the introduction of its latest open architecture microwave tuner, the SI-9155 VME/VXS. The high-performance tuner, used for SIGINT surveillance and monitoring operations, provides size, weight and power (SWaP) advantages to its end-users. The SI-9155 can feed signal processors for simultaneous processing of electronic intelligence (ELINT), communications intelligence (COMINT) and foreign instrumentation signals intelligence (FISINT) signals. Additionally, the tuner can operate at extreme temperatures because of its convection and conduction cooling feature.

“DRS Signal Solutions is dedicated to meeting current and future requirements for SIGINT and Electronic Warfare communities,” said Larry Butera, vice president and general manager of DRS Signal Solutions, Inc. “The high-performance SI-9155 is designed to meet SWaP requirements without sacrificing RF performance and allows for rapid technical upgrades based on future military program requirements.”

The SI-9155 can operate in three different modes, including manual (fixed frequency), sweep (contiguous coverage from a start to a stop frequency in incremental steps) and step (preprogrammed channels). It can be remotely configured for independent operation in a stand-alone environment or for phase-coherent operation when part of a system utilizing additional tuners. The SI-9155 covers the ultra high frequency/super high frequency (UHF/SHF) spectrum from 350 MHz to 24.5 GHz, allowing the capture of low-level signals that are difficult to detect.
